Russian drama theatre

The Russian Drama Theater of Uzbekistan was established in 1934. This is a place where Uzbek and Russian cultures are closely intertwined. The repertoire of the institution is designed for a different-age viewer. The average duration of the performance is about two hours. The theater room accommodates 631 people. As before, most of the performances are based on the plays of Russian and Uzbek classics, popular satirists and playwrights.

The Tashkent Russian Drama Theater opened on October 21, 1934. The founders of the theater are the first artistic director of the theater Vasily Alexandrovich Chirkin and the director of the theater Mikhail Karlovich Vulkonsky. In 1936, the theater was named after the Russian writer Maxim Gorky.

Many performances are among the significant achievements of theatrical art of the 30-50s. This is “Boris Godunov” by A. Pushkin, “Peter the First” by A. Tolstoy, “Masquerade” by M. Lermontov, “Three Sisters” by A. P. Chekhov, “Woe from Wit” by A. Griboyedov, “In a place of excitement” A O. Ostrovsky and others. The turn in the creative activity of the theater occurred in the 50-70s. and he was determined by the new direction, the search for a modern style. Staged for the theater were the performances: “The Story of an Empty Soul” – the first incarnation of M. Gorky’s epic novel “The Life of Klim Samgin” and “The Irkutsk Story” by A. Arbuzov directed by People’s Artist of Uzbekistan A. Ginzburg; “Hamlet” by W. Shakespeare staged by A. Mikhailov, Honored Artist of Russia; “The Regiment is Coming” – the embodiment of the novel by M. Sholokhov “They Fought for the Motherland” and “The Power of Darkness” by L. Tolstoy in the direction of M. Spivak.

In 1967 the theater is awarded the title “Academic”. During this period, the bright performances of V.Strizhov “The Traveler without Luggage” by J. Anuay, “The Inspector” by N. Gogol, “The Man from La Mancha” by D. Wasserman, “Tsar Fedor Ioanovich” by A. Tolstoy, who demonstrated a high professional culture of new perception in art, are staged .

Great success fell to the lot of performances of the director – People’s Artist of Uzbekistan Olga Chernova. She was constantly looking for ways to the heart of a contemporary, always being sincere in her aspirations. Her performances “Crime and Punishment” by F.
